Zone info
All students within the home zone described below will be eligible to enrol at the school.
The zone boundary commences in the north at 1308 Rotowaro Road (addresses numbered 1265 Rotowaro Road and below are not included). From 1308 Rotowaro Road it extends south, including all addresses on Glen Road, Pukemiro Mine Road, and Waingaro Road, and then east to the Hakarimata Range, including all addresses on Elgood Road. (Hangapipi Road, Taupiri Mine Road, Coal Haulage Road, Huhu Road, Waipuna Mine Road, Hillside Heights Road and Parker Road are not in-zone).
The zone follows the Hakarimata Range north-east to Kauri Lane and includes all Kauri Lane addresses. Parker Road addresses are not in zone. Hakarimata Road addresses on the Ngaruawahia side of Kauri Lane are included in zone.
From Kauri Lane the zone extends directly to the Waikato River and follows it south to the Mangawara Stream. The boundary follows the Mangawara Stream to where it is crossed by the Waikato Expressway (SH1) and follows it north to the Taupiri Pass Scientific Reserve.
The boundary follows the Taupiri Pass Scientific Reserve border north, to include all Orini Road addresses to the intersection of Woodward Road, and including all Old Road, Moss Road and Peacocke Road addresses. Rutherfurd Road addresses from Orini Road up to and including number 684 are in-zone (Rutherfurd Road addresses numbered 740 and above are not in zone). Pizzini, Po Access and Welch Roads are in-zone.
The boundary extends east from 684 Rutherfurd Road to include all Kneebone Road addresses, all Te Hoe Road addresses, all Proctor Road addresses, and all Flaxmill Road addresses (Tahuna and Mangatea Roads are not in-zone).
From the Orini Road and Woodward Road (Woodward Road is not in-zone) the boundary extends west to 367 Tenfoot Road (Tenfoot Road addresses numbered 367 and above are in zone, numbers 328 and below are not in-zone) and continues, including all Henry Road and Davies Road addresses, to cross at 150A Gower Road (Gower Road addresses numbered 150 and above are in-zone, numbers 133 and below are not in-zone).
From 150 Gower Road the boundary extends to the intersection of Lake and Gordonton Road (SH1B). All of Redbook Drive is included in the zone.
The boundary then follows Lake Road (only odd numbered Lake Road addresses are included to the SH1, SH1C and Lake Road interchange. Only Dawson Road addresses numbered 257 and above are in-zone, Kainui Road is in-zone, Howard Road is in-zone, Horsham Downs Road is not in-zone.
From the SH1, SH1C and Lake Road interchange the zone extends in a straight line to the intersection of River Road and Kay Road, to cross at 27 Paterson Road (numbers 27 and below Paterson Road are in-zone). Cloverfield Lane, Hereford Drive, Landon Lane and Sherwood Downs Drive are in-zone.
From the intersection of River Road and Kay Road the zone follows a straight line across the Waikato River to the intersection of Ruffel and Te Rapa Roads, crossing at 1376 Pukete Road (numbers 1382 and above Pukete Road are in-zone, numbers 1376 and below Pukete Road are not in-zone).180 Maui Street and above are in-zone (178 and below are not in-zone).
The boundary follows Ruffel Road to Onion Road (only including east of Onion Road) then follows Redoaks Close, spans Mangaharakeke Drive, and follows Mathers Road to Onion Road (including only odd numbered Onion Road addresses from number 269 and below) as far as Horotiu Road.
Horotiu Road addresses as far as Onion Road are in-zone (number 227 and below are in-zone, 283 and above are not in-zone). From the Onion Road and Horotiu Road extension the boundary extends toward Crawford Road then extends along Crawford Road (including only odd numbered Crawford Road addresses numbered 207 Crawford Road and above) to 655D Ngaruawahia Road.
Addresses numbered 655D Ngaruawahia Road and below are in zone. Bedford Road is not in zone.
From 553 Ngaruawahia Road the boundary extends west, including all of Waipa Heights Road and Te Puroa Roads, to include Ohautira Road addresses from Hwy 22 / Waingaro Road to Waingaro Landing Road, and including Putawa Road, Waingaro Landing Road and Halliday Road. The zone extends to include Ruakiwi Road addresses from the Ruakiwi Road/Ohautira Road intersection to the Ruakiwi Road/Clemett Road intersection (and including Wintour Road). Mangiti and Clemett Roads are not in-zone.
The zone also includes Highway 22 addresses from the intersection with Ohautira Road to the intersection with Otorohaea Trig Road. All Otorohaea Trig Road is in-zone. Te Akau Road is not in-zone.
Note: Both sides of all streets and roads included in the above description are included unless otherwise stated.
Proof of residence within the home zone will be required for all enrolments. Each year applications for enrolment for in-zone student for the following year will be sought by a specific date, which will be published. This allows the Board to assess the number of available places for students who live outside the home zone.
Each year, the Board will determine the number of places likely to be available for students who live outside the home zone. This information, along with instructions on how to apply and the application deadline, will be published.
Applications for out-of-zone enrolments will be processed in the following order of priority:
- First Priority: Not applicable at this school, as we do not fund a special program approved by the Secretary of Education.
- Second Priority: Applicants who are siblings of current students.
- Third Priority: Applicants who are siblings of former students.
- Fourth Priority: Any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
- Fifth Priority: Any applicant who is either a child of any employee of the Board of the school or a child of a member of the Board.
- Sixth Priority: All other applicants.
If the number of applicants in any of the second, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth priority groups exceed the number of places available, a ballot will be conducted.
This ballot will be carried out in accordance with instructions from the Secretary for Education, as per schedule 20, Clause 3(1) of the Education and Training Act 2020. Parents will be notified of any ballot through a public notice in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school.
Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to provide proof of a sibling relationship.

Subject: Notification of Ngaruawahia High School Enrolment Scheme – Effective from 1st January 2026.
The Ngaruawahia High School Board wishes to formally notify the community of the introduction of a new enrolment scheme, which will take effect from 1 January 2026. This scheme is being implemented under the authority granted by a Schedule 20 of the Education and Training Act 2020. This legislation outlines the basis on which the Secretary for Education’s powers concerning enrolment schemes are exercised.
The purpose of this enrolment scheme is to ensure that the Board can manage and plan for student enrolments in a fair and transparent manner, ensuring that students living within our designated home zone have the right to attend Ngaruawahia High School. The zone has been implemented in response to the significant growth our school has experienced in recent years.
Home Zone
All students within the home zone described below will be eligible to enrol at the school.
