Two groups of students entered into the Waikato / Bay of Plenty Epro8 competition this year. One group of year nines and one group of year tens. The event was held at St Pauls Collegiate School and 14 teams took part. The Epro8 challenge provides students with the opportunity to problem solve and complete engineering solutions within their team. They gain points by completing set tasks and challenges from a series of instructions within a manual. Each element is awarded different points and the judge comes around and adds the team's score to an electronic scoreboard...
It was a new experience for our students and they represented us very well indeed. We finished the event in twelfth place overall. This was a great outcome for students who had not taken part before. The majority of schools had previous experience with the equipment and machinery used so could progress slightly quicker.
Whaea Rachel, Mr Reeves and Mr Elgar went along to support the students and they very impressed by how well the students worked together and overcame a range of challenges and difficulties.
The Epro8 challenge will be available for students again next year and we will hopefully take a senior team along also.
