Curriculum
Junior School
Our junior school curriculum supports our junior learners to equip themselves for today’s repidly changing society by teaching skills such as critical thinking, innovation and collaboration. Students are placed in mixed ability classes that focus on mastering skills involved in English, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences. They also gain learning experiences around Wellbeing, Physical Education, Hauora and Aotearoa New Zealand Histories.
Year 9 students experience Arts and Technology options as “tasters”. This gives students the opportunity to experience a broad range of curriculum areas.
Year 10 students choose two options subjects that they enjoyed during year 9 and will begin to specialise in these subjects, ensuring theya re ready to transition into Year 11 and the NCEA programme.
Senior School
The senior school has four main features:
- University Pathway
We retain a strong academic strand, which prepares students for university and other degree level studies. - Industry Pathway
We have a wide range of courses that allow students to gain knowledge and learn skills in a number of employment-related areas. This gives students a head start when moving to a polytechnic or to other training institutions after leaving Ngaruawahia High School. - Personalisation
Students are able to study at different levels in the senior school and across both of the above pathways according to their needs and ability.
